Make Up For Ever Artist Liquid Matte Lipsticks | Review, Try On + Swatches

Confession: I'm a liquid lipstick convert. I didn't really get the craze when this lip product hybrid started taking over the makeup world, but after trying a few brands out, I have been enlightened by their amazingness. One brand that has been killing the liquid lipstick game is Make Up For Ever. Earlier this year, they came out with a small selection of Artist Liquid Matte Lipsticks, and I tested out a handful of nude shades: 103 Warm Beige, 105 Rosewood and 107 Neutral Beige. They recently expanded the line and have added a bunch of colours, many of which I have to share with you today. While my first sampling was of more neutral shades, this time around I have bolder and more vibrant hues to show you.

The Artist Liquid Matte Lipstick in 201 Fresh Pink* is basically a Barbie pink. This colour is super fun and 'out there', however it isn't really my cup of tea as I find it does not really complement my lighter skin tone. This shade would look amazing on medium to dark skin tones.

The Artist Liquid Matte Lipstick in 205 Mauvy Pink* is a beautiful shade for all skin tones, and one of my favourites from the bunch. I definitely feel comfortable wearing this one out and about, even if just casually running errands. It is not too overpowering, and can work with many eye looks without clashing.

The Artist Liquid Matte Lipstick in 207 Raspberry* is a gorgeous shade for fall. I'm all for berry lips during this time of the year, and I've been reaching for this one quite a bit. It is definitely eye catching, and brightens up any look.

The Artist Liquid Matte Lipstick in 301 Rust* is my favourite shade from the line, and is unlike anything I own. A mix of beige and peach, it is on the more neutral side, yet still provides a bit of a punch. I see this one working on all skin tones as well.

The Artist Liquid Matte Lipstick in 403 Deep Red* is, well, as the name implies. It is more of a firetruck red as opposed to a blood red. I love that it does not feather, and I can get by without having to use a lip liner. With the holiday season quickly approaching, I know I will be reaching for this one a lot.

The Artist Liquid Matte Lipstick in 501 Purple* is wayyyy out of my comfort zone. It was a bit trickier to apply, and I had to go in wit two layers for it to look mostly even. I think it is harder to pull off if you have a lighter skin tone like me, but I've seen this shade on darker skin tones and it looks freakin' fantastic.

The Artist Liquid Matte Lipstick in 503 Deep Plum* is a burgundy red. If you are looking for a vampier shade, this one is a top pick of mine. It requires some layering, as just one swipe makes it look patchy and uneven. The swatch below is after three layers.

The Artist Liquid Matte Lipstick in 503 Blackcurrant* has won the title of darkest lip shade I own. Upon seeing it, I thought to myself there was no way I could pull this one off. To my surprise, it actually can work on a lighter skin tone like mine. Again, it will take a few layers for the colour to pay off, and the result, although very bold, can work well depending on the look you are going for (goth vibes anyone?)

The formulation is fantastic, not gloopy nor too thin and the product applies with ease, without over-emphasizing or setting into my lip lines. While these have a matte finish, they aren't drying on the lips. The doe-foot wand offers great control and a very minimal chance of a messy application. Now for longevity, these stay put for hours - as in, 12 hours later, I have to go in with a makeup remover to get it all off. The product barely transfers, and despite talking, eating and drinking throughout the day, the majority of the colour will remain - some light fading might occur, and in my case this happens at the center of my lips.
