The Monster Report

Welcome to another edition of the Monster Report. The Monster Report explores the book happenings of Jessica and Kristen. Whether it be what we got in our mailboxes, what books we are currently hiding in, or fun stuff to look forward to this week at The Book Monsters, you can find it here. The Monster Report is inspired by Alea‘s This Week in Books, Tynga’s Stacking the Shelves, and Kathryn at the Book Date‘s It’s Monday, What are you Reading? Also, Teach Mentor Texts and Unleashing Readers also host a kidlit version of It’s Monday, What are you Reading?

It was a very slow reading week guys, I had my first full week at the new job and it has been exhausting. After tomorrow shift I will have some down time and the rest of the week my shifts aren’t insanely long like they were today and tomorrow. Also I decided to DNF The Gilded Wolves because I wasn’t really feeling it. I really enjoyed My Almost Flawless Tokyo Dream Life, it was cute, fun, and it really made me feel like I was exploring the streets of Tokyo with our main character. I gave it 4/5.

Read this Week:

Grasshopper Jungle just was not for me. It had the word “horny” in it 100 times, it had giant bug sex and all sorts of weird stuff… I honestly don’t know how I got through this book. The Mortal Word was amazing, an awesome follow up story to a series I hope never ends – full of dragons, fey, and mystery! The Outsiders I reread as an audiobook and I just loved revisiting Ponyboy – definitely a fave book of mine that I read a million times as a teen. All In was a fantastic mystery that I could not put down – serial killer in Las Vegas with a group of teens helping to solve. This is the third in the series and I forget how much I love all the characters! The Losers Club was a fun story about a boy who just wants to sit and read in the afterschool program (and all the time) and learns a lot on the way. I loved all the Star Wars references in this book. Bat is a series I caught up on, reading book 2 and 3 and I’ll be sharing my thoughts in a review coming up for the blog tour! I just love Bat though – an autistic boy who is raising a baby skunk.
