MY DIY | BFF Cross-Stitch Case

I bought a few of these cases a while back thinking it would be a fun way to learn cross-stitching and have a truly one-of-a-kind iPhone case. I was not sure what I wanted to do for pattern, until an idea popped into my head when I was at a screening for HBO’s Doll & Em. The comedy is all about Emily Mortimer and her real life BFF and the funny Hollywood predicaments they find themselves in, which got me thinking about my real life bestie and how growing up, we were always gifting each other Best Friend everything…jewerly, pillows, slap-on bracelets…you name it. Since all things throwback are in style, I took my first go at cross-stitching, creating half heart BFF phone cases. I will admit, since I have an aversion to directions, it took me a couple go’s to get it right, but once I had the swing of the stitch, I sat back, caught up on some TV (watch the first two episodes of Doll & Em on HBO GO) and finished these in no time! I am already working on my next set!

For more bestie escapades, make sure to check out the new

Doll & Em episode tonight at 10pm ET/PT on HBO, then tag #dollandem and @HBO with your favorite BFF DIY. Steps after the break!

What you need:
Cross-stitch Case
Needle
Embroidery thread
Sharpie

What to do:
First, draw the half heart shape on the phone case with your sharpie.
Next on to stitching, I started on the top row of the heart with a ///// stitch.
Then, crossed back over it to create an XXXX pattern.
I worked down row by row, alternating between red and pink thread.
Knot in the back to secure.
